A step by step guide to building a 1-hook clipped down ray rig.

1. Start with a 30-inch length of 60lb Rig Body line. Tie on a Gemini lead link at the base.

2. Slide on a Breakaway Impact Shield followed by a bead and crimp above it. Position the Impact Shield just above the link knot and secure the crimp in place leaving about an inch for the Shield to slide in.

3. Slide on a rig crimp, a rig bead, a small rig swivel, another bead and a crimp. Leave these loose for now.

4. To the remaining free end of 60lb line add a strong size 4 rig body swivel.

5. The hook trace is a 24-inch length of 30lb Fluoro carbon, alternatively 40lb mono. Slide on a size 5mm bead, then finish with a Viking 79515 size 3/0 hook. Above the bead on the hook snood, tie in a Powergum stop knot to form a bait stop to avoid the bait blowing back up the hook snood during the cast.

6. Put the hook in the clip of the Impact Shield and slide the rig, bead and swivel assembly up the trace until the hook length comes just tight, then secure the rig crimps in place.
