A step by step guide to building a boat dab rig

1 - Start with 20-inches of 40/50lb clear mono.

2 - At one end tie on a lead link.

3 - Slide on a rig crimp, a 3mm rig bead, an L shaped wire boom, another bead and a crimp. Secure these in place 2-inches above the lead link.

4 - At the free end of the 40/50lb mono, tie on a size 4 rolling swivel.

5 - To the swivel or wire eye at the end of the boom tie on 40-inches of 25lb Fluorocarbon line.

6 - Form a 15-inch long loop in the end of the Fluorocarbon and tie in a double granny knot to secure the loop. Cut one side of the loop 4-inches from the knot to form a short hook snood with the other side left long to flow in the tide.

7 - On each hook snood slide on a single 3mm luminous yellow or green bead, then tie on a size 2 Kamasan B940 Aberdeen hook.

The booms that slide on to the rig body as shown are best as they fully rotate and reduce tangles.

The luminous bead is essential and will increase catches by a large percentage on most days, and especially if the water carries colour and sediment after a gale.
