Back a few years ago (probably 25) i had just bought a new boat and i took her to the river Bann to try her out before i took her to the sea. Everything went well and on the way home i stopped at the little chineese takeaway in the village for my supper. Ah said Derek ( the owner) have you got new boat? Yeah i just got it. Have you any fish? No not yet. If you catch fish you tell me. Ok. Shortly after we headed out from Carnlough for a bit of fishing and hit a shoal of mackeral. We filled a bread basket and went home. I rang Derek and ask do you want some mackeral? Yeah yeah how many? 120 i replied. Oh no too many, how much are they? 10p each i replied £12. Oh yes i take them all. Sure enough 10 minutes Derek reversed into my drive in his mk3 escort, got out, reached me £12, opened the boot and lifted the bread basket of mackeral and tipped the whole lot into his boot and give me back the basket and drove off. They were scooting in below the seats everywhere, in below the spare wheel and anywhere else they could go. I can only imagine what that would have been like in bout a weeks time.

Nice one Topey! I used to go out a lot Boat fishing with a mate down here, and we'd often come back with a big box full of Mackerel, and having moored the Boat up & gutted the Fish, we'd do the rounds of a couple of local villages and sell the Mackerel to the OAP's for 10p each! On the strength of that, I was out around the shops one day and thought I'd treat myself to a quality Penn Rod & Reel. 3 days later, my mate phoned up and said his Dad had decided to sell the house, and the Boat too!

Derek the chinaman took guts and all mate lol we didnt have them gutted. Im sure you were GUTTED lol when your mate sold the boat.

Yep, not been Boat fishing since, and the Rod & Reel is still here in the cupboard unused.

You can’t live in Plymouth and not be able to blag a trip out on someone’s boat, come on man.
I probably could do, but don't know anyone at the moment, and health is far from good. I'm working on it though!

Now got other rods & reels I can use, keep thinking of selling the Penns as there is a similar rod & reel going new on an Aussie eBay store for £125. The Penn 320GTi is still new in its box and is a genuine USA one so I guess pretty rare now. The rod is a Penn Senator 6'6" 16 - 20Lb with bottom & tip roller rings, also new & unused.
