After spending most of the day hovering over my poorly pussy cat and agonising that he won’t eat the special (for special, read ‘tastes like crap’) food the vets want him on, I decided a few more hours wrassing might take my mind off things.

Low tide was 4pm and rather than go to the mark I fished yesterday, I thought I’d travel a bit further and try the mark where I had the two pounder the other week.
It’s a fair old hike down there and then lots of clambering over dodgy boulders - the Snowbee Rockhoppers earned their keep today.
But then they always do, although the neoprene leaves my feet smelling like a cheese mated with a zombie.

Anyhoo, only took five spider crab and when I got there, realised I’d somehow put one back in the freezer and taken an extra bag of legs instead ?
So thought it had better be one rod to conserve bait.

First cast instantly produced a rattling bite. Oh dear, I’ve got a good idea what this is…
Thankfully the slimy git lost interest.
Second cast saw a screamer of a bite and something powerful on that soon dropped off ?
However the trace was twisted to feck. Hmm. ?

If you’re squeamish, look away now…

Rods are just tools to me, and these are my rock rods for short range stuff.
Don’t worry, pretty sure they’re not Zziplex, but it tickles me to chuck the name around on rocks.
Bought the pair for £80 and I think the guy that owned them had delusions of grandeur and had basic rods rebuilt to look like Zzipys so he looked flash on the local pier, which I understand from the shop that sold them is where he always fished.
I bought them as two shortish cheap rods that I didn’t mind knocking about on rocks.

ANYWAY… as low approached I realised something crucial - the tide was a bit big for the high spot I was on, and for the moment I’d basically run out of water, as it wouldn’t really be possible to land a fish.
So had to wait about half hour before I could fish again.

This gives you an idea of the rocks, although this was half hour after low and they were starting to cover again. What you can’t see is there was barely any water at my feet to steer a fish through.

This was proved a few minutes later when the rod screamed off and what at first seemed a promising fish turned out to be a strap.
I had to hand line it up as the rod wouldn’t take it, but eventually I had my ‘prize’ ?

Bloody things ?

Shortly after I had an even smaller one.

Tide was flooding and I was getting knocks and rattles that looked like more eel bites.
Short story long, no more fish and I packed up a little earlier than I could have as I wanted to get back and see how the cat was doing.

I’ll leave you with a bit of bait porn - prime spider and a brilliant wrasse bait…

This is my wrasse rig, just a three way swivel, 20lb rotten bottom and 30lb trace to a 3/0.
Quick, easy and minimal components.

Anyway, today, lightning didn’t strike twice!
On the plus side, the cat seemed livelier when I got back and he’s eaten well this evening and is now kipping.

Can't help wondering if your cat would not fancy a dish or two of nice fresh fish ?
I have got a pollack in the freezer I need to defrost and fillet for him, but he’s not THAT keen on fish, chicken seems to be the favourite

Great report, unlucky with the lack of wrasse.
Cheers Shirl, yes a bit surprised I didn’t get one.
They are there in numbers. When I fished it once on a very low tide and got down on a ledge in front of the kelp forest, I had time for four of five casts, had a screaming run on each and lost four or five very powerful fish to the kelp.
But that spot needs some serious mountain goating and you only get about two hours, the higher spot gives four of five hours.

Shame the lightning didn't go your way - nice report.

Hope Puss continues to improve - maybe he'd like some Mackerel Sushi, carefully filleted & pin boned of course!

Any more updates on Puss @Mr Fish?
He’s been quite lively today mate and eating well, although he was sick in the night or early this morning.
It was a lot of undigested chicken and biscuits so I think I might have overloaded him a bit yesterday - have been a bit more measured with what I’ve given him today.

He’s quite dossy at the moment and hasn’t eaten much this evening but then again he’s had plenty today.

In fact I had just gone to have a shower and he’s asleep on the bathroom stool (?) so rather than disturb him I’ll have to have it in the morning

Glad to hear he's been quite perky. It would be great if the Vet could come up with something concrete as to why the poor little rascal has had all of these problems. Teenagers eh? !! ??

I've got 3 of the neighbours Cats well trained now - they have to get up on the garden storage box for a fuss and a few Dreamies! I feel like a Lion tamer at times! Ginge as I call her was around tonight for big cuddles and some treats. Still lots that come in the garden that I can't get near but would like too - our back garden is like a Cat's speakeasy! ??
