South East Mission accomplished!

My ultimate goal is a shore caught tope but unfortunately, they’re not too common in north Kent anymore. (Although I have known of two small ones caught here in my lifetime)…..
So, realistically my next target is to beat my bass pb of 5lbs 6oz, a double would be special!
There's a thread on one of the local fb pages from a guy who thinks he may have had a tope hit a bait 3 times. Whether we get tope in shallow water on North Kent beaches is another thing

Yes I’ve seen that. I’m actually inclined to believe it too. I know of two caught from Herne bay, both were only pups but I witnessed one of them myself. The attached was the only pic I took, it was in 2016 near the pier head.
They used to be common here in the 30’s/40’s

What do they taste like..?
They’re very similar to rock salmon that you get from the chippy. It’s a really meaty fish and the best thing is there’s no bones!
