Pond Fishing

Your report made good reading Kine 262
Cheers mate.

As promised, I have managed to find the picture of one of the fish I had from there. It was just before dusk on a summer evening so the flash on the camera has bleached the colour out of the fish a bit, but it was a lot redder than it appears. As I said in my initial post, not the prettiest of fish but solid muscle and fight like stink!

Where is your cameo stuff? - sorry couldn't resist ;):ROFLMAO:

Don't knock it until you've tried it is my motto! Carp caught on a home tied creation are great sport on a 7/8wt single hand fly rod. I'm not talking about waters that are heavily stocked commercial waters. The ponds are ancient and the carp stocked many decades ago. It's certainly not easy fishing. There's large rudd too that occasionally rise to a small dry fly. Sea fishing is heavy handed in comparison. I enjoy being an all round angler. Others may not
I enjoy fishing wild rivers and streams not like stocked commercial mud puddles!

Nah, not bothered about the fish, it was the gamekeeper I was hiding from! ???
Lol been there done that! Also been the keeper!! Just remembered someone has a spinning rod and reel of mine! Best call it quits as I had a few trout with it before he found it! Lol miss the good old days!!!

The red river below Lockport in Manitoba Canada, the carp are like massive barbel, and the channel cats are brutal both are plentiful.
It is easy but every fish is pristine and fight like fury.....
Easy trip fly into winnipeg, hire a car drive an hour, stay in cheap motel.
And then catch as many fish as you can ever want....... You dont need more than 4 days on the river that will be more than enough.
500lb bags are easy enough.
The other place I have fished and loved is Extramadura about an hour and a half south of Talavera in Spain, Its got to be the most pristine environment left in Europe, and one of the best mixed course fisheries left on the planet. Barbel taking live baits and big commons, you literally do not know whats coming next.
Heavy feeder rod heaven..... I shall return there, the hospitality was amazing and we did not see another tourist or angler during out stay there.
Fished quite a bit around the world and as far as freshwater venues go these are my favourites.
We are looking at a trip to Extramadura , its about three hours west of where we live. The barbel apparently run to mid 30,s. Its a national park ..
We fish the jucar River most weeks and whilst the carp are not huge fish compared to the UK they do put up a good scrap ..for the real big stuff the Ebro has the lot , huge cats and carp ....40lb fish are common .

I hate the Ebro the environment there is just nasty!.

I used to enjoy catching Tench way back when.

We fished around Caspe , it is quite commercialised ..my pals go without a guide and fish some pretty remote spots but it’s very much hit and miss ..Extramadura is pristine by comparison .

So you must reside in the midst of the Pentland, because I can go to Scrabster in just over 4 hours.
There's nothing wrong with carping; it's not as simple as people think; anyone who thinks it's simple can come with me to a solid body of water... If you're lucky, you'll catch three fish in a year. fishingverge

I used to fish for them when I was a schoolboy, in those days we used to float bread flake by Lilly pads and caught 3 or 4 a day. Either first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening. It was not that difficult, alternative was sweetcorn on a float just off the bottom. Nowadays overfishing in lakes & ponds makes life difficult, hence why I sea fish.

Having spent countless hours on the serene banks of rivers, I've discovered that fishing not only provides a peaceful escape but also a thrilling challenge. The satisfaction of reeling in a big catch and the opportunity to connect with nature are just a few reasons why fishing has become my favorite hobby. Looking forward to hearing about your fishing adventures and tips!
