It seems like the spool on my 6000 isn't oscillating properly and his causing a birds nest..I have just put new line on..it's a nightmare..any ideas please..?

If it was ok before, are you sure you have put it back on properly?
Serious question, had the same with my 10000 last week. Also, the front of the spool had come slightly unscrewed.

It's weird..sometimes it works fine..other times not..I did buy it twenty years ago and have never cleaned ..greased or washed it.

Funnily enough, I had exactly the same problem with a 5000 just a couple of weeks ago. It worked sometimes and not others, and also seemed to work all the time when wound backwards. Sent it off to Felindre (the Shimano repair specialists) and they said it was the oscillating slider and the worm drive that needed replacing. Came back working perfectly.

Ignore the drag washers, I just had them changed as part of a service while it was there.

Thanks for the help..I will try it..cheers.

Sounds to me as if it needs a good clean & regrease like flappy said mate

Just to add..would a clean up and regrease help..?
Maybe, but if it was a bit sluggish or not a smooth wind then I might agree more, but as it is not actually oscillating I would say it is more likely to be something worn or broken. I did have a quick look inside mine and gave it a clean but couldn’t see anything obviously broken. They are so bloody complicated inside I didn’t mess about too much so just sent it off to Shimano.
