Very very new to this especially fluorocarbon

Haven't tried anything yet as rod and reel are for Christmas, just going on what I've read and watched on YouTube, as far as I can tell the consensus is that, braid gives the best contact,but at the risk of damage by rocks etc, fluorocarbon is more abrasion resistant but can be dodgy with knots etc,and mono is stretchy, relatively good abrasion resistance, but cheap. I was trying to find out if a small leader of mono would work against the advantage of braid. All of this depends on actually hooking a fish:unsure:
