I do a lot of shore / rock fishing for smoothounds, congers and bass. I am looking into buying the Akios krave kx420 but I haven’t seen any reviews on them. How are they as rods?

Welcome to the Madhouse Welshjp! 👍👍

I don't own/use any Akios gear so can't offer any advice I'm afraid. Have you looked on Google or Youtube for reviews?

I've just ordered the Kyobi rods, 2 piece , really look the biz and are having rave reviews, one butt section, 2 tips, softer one for fatties etc and stronger tip for rays, hounds etc, looking forward to using them

You never see anything but rave reviews for Akios. They pump freebies out on a grand scale to influencer types. Remember they are just a brand name that outsources/rebadges everything. The only thing they manufacture is profit.

It's a welcome from me as well Welship (y)

Outsource maybe but the multiplier reels are designed by an ex Abu designer and the ones I've tried have been superb IE shuttle and nitron F15 xp. In fact I sold my 7 HT mags and casting specials in favour of these. Their rods they seem to design and develop with the input from anglers they sponsor but I haven't tried any of them but Tony of Toni's tackle rates them but then he sells a lot of them. Having looked at the higher end one's out of curiosity they appear extremely well finished with top end fittings but the prices have crept up to the £400 mark for an imported rod when a century or zziplex can be bought for £525 so not a huge saving considering the later has a proven track record that will give many years of service and still be worth something. Then again many overlook daiwa and thier top line tournament pro surf which also has top end fittings and is made in Scotland and finished to a very high standard and is cheaper than the high end akios rods at £320 ish which are what I chose.

Simon Bradbury and the setting up of Akios is an "interesting" story! To say that the Shuttle or any of their ABU clones were 'designed' is stretching out to the ridiculous - they were simply rebadged Omoto products ordered by MrMoonlight whilst he was supposed to be representing his then employer, a certain ABU 🤣
I'm not saying Akios make bad tackle, in fact these days truly bad tackle is thankfully pretty rare unlike back in the 70s! We knew it wouldn't take long for China to get their act together, the cash injected by the huge players in the American market finally made it all work and make perfect sense to investors. The economic modelling behind it all means that £400 srp rod costs around $90 by the time its container reaches Europe. Now a good rod is a good rod, but is it a good deal? Can you get spares? How long will that model be current and in the catalogue before its discontinued and deeply discounted? The truth is the real 'design work' goes into the social media feebie driven hype and the pseudo technical jargon that make it all sound so cutting edge. Until the next model appears....

That's not what I was led to believe, the way it was. Simon was Abu's chief design engineer but wasn't happy with Abu rejecting mods to the range and I read he designed the billet frame and had omoto make it for him under the akios brand name and later designed the nitron again manufactured by omoto .
Rod wise they do seem to bring new models out regularly and as you say I would be worried about spares if I owned them but that would apply to others like anyfish ,tronix, limitless.

Omoto make decent reels, mostly to specifcation, for various brand names. With the greatest of respect Goose the ABU 6500TSR design, influenced by Qtc/Zeta/TG field casting frames, came a long time before Akios was even dreamed about..... and lets be honest no 'cheif design engineer' worth their salt would have signed off on the utterly shit Nitron mk1......unless they were full of shit themselves......I could go on and discuss the Akios Superstore fiasco but I'll leave it there👍

Those Fireblades look great value in comparison to any of these trendy badgers. But hey-ho each to their own!

Wasn't the Abu 6500TSR one of Simon's designs ?

So you prefer to purchase from a company owned by Pure Fishing from The US of A? out sourced to Chinky Land for a fixed cheap budget

Lots of miss information out there as when I ask Google where the nitron's are made this way the answer
Akios Nitron reels are manufactured in Japan. Specifically, Shimano, the manufacturer of the Nitron series, produces many of its premium reels in Japan. While the distribution and warranty for Akios products may vary by region, Shimano Japan is the source of the reels themselves

Very strange, the more I dig the conflicting info I find, linkedin says he was the design engineer for pure fishing,,trying to find where the reels are made ,one day Shimano make the nitron's in Japan, another says Chinese and another says omoto make them at Thier more expensive reel manufacturing facility in Taiwan and it also said many of Abu 's models are made there. All clear as mud.
