Hi. I'm going to be staying near Amlwch for a week in June.

I just wanted to see what the best options were for pier or rock fishing with light gear in the area. Happy to drive about 30 minutes or so.

I was originally thinking of trying Holyhead Breakwater. I know there's also Amlwch and I guess Bangor might be ok to try?

Usually we go to the Torbay area, but after the closure of Berry Head last year, we want to try another place.

I just have a couple of bass rods, an 8 foot and 7 foot.

I want to fish with light rigs - I have to with the rods I have.

Usually I try spinning with metal lures, or using Japanese mini feather rigs for mackerel and garfish, or float fishing. Last time I was in Torquay, I went for squid with squid jigs and had some success.

Sometimes I'll try fishing on the bottom with light leads - I don't have any grip leads or anything. I think weight wise, I can't go much heavier than two or three ounces with my bass rods.

I'll be going with my wife - she tends to catch more than me, she caught a 22 inch bass in Teignmouth a couple of years ago.

Just a few questions:

- Re: Holyhead Breakwater, Amlwch, and Bangor, what's the parking situation like at these places? Are any of the parking options difficult or expensive, and/or a long walk from the car park to the fishing spot?

- If we try Holyhead Breakwater, how far down the breakwater should we go? As far out as possible, or closer to the shore?

- What is the toilet situation like at these locations? Are there loos nearby?

- Is it safe to fish at these places at night?

- Are any of these places particularly well lit for night fishing (i.e. we might not need headlamps)?

- Do any of them get particularly crowded?

- Are there any other places we can try, just with our bass rods?

- What species should we go for and what are the recommended tactics to catch them (i.e. rigs, baits, etc.)? I understand this can vary day by day.

Some videos of Amlwch breakwater also pop in to see Telboy in the tackle shop in the town
