Anybody using rig winders, are they any good / useful.. or another gimmick

They are handy. Get less tangles with them as opposed to a ziplock but I find they take up too much space (I do go as light as possible) so only carry a couple just to get me started. I can fit 2 rigs onto 1 winder just need to know which one is on top. Probably carry another 20 odd rigs in ziplocks as there's plenty of time once you're set up to sort out any problems.

I've always found rig winders too small, as the hooks and components stick out from the side and then get knocked off when in storage. I just use a rig wallet (Ian Golds) as it has different size bags and covers all my storage needs.

They can be useful but it depends on the rig, they aren't designed for bulky things like lmpact shields or large sea hooks.
flat rig wallets are much better for the size of sea rigs.
Yep! That is what I am finding.. not much good at keeping my pulley rigs for surf casting etc.. hooks and pulleys are too bulky.. better off in a wallet .. or just in zip locks

Also don't need wind them as tightly in bag..so less memory effect

Got some, tried them, but hooks fall out and the rigs come loose. Plus they are bulky compared to Zip lock bags.
I think I had one of those Tronix rig winder pouches but ti's now confined in the 'Tackle I don't use box'.

Looking at this one.. seems to have enough decent size pouches

Anybody used it ?

I've got a rig wallet - can't remember what brand it is. Breakaway stuff is usually pretty good, though any of their products I usually buy direct from the Breakaway website.

I've taken more to using zip lock bags, and I've got one of those "Really useful boxes" (similar size to a lure box) which I keep my home made rigs in. Wifey uses a lot of Zip lock bags at work, so she got me a big bunch of 10cm square bags for free.
