Trio the original was a Lochin 33 skippered by Roy Smith in Langstone harbour. i fished with Leroy as he was known from when he had his first charter boat which i think was a Mitchel 31 back in the late 80's early 90's. He upgraded to the Lochin and we fished with him for the next 20 years or so...
i don't think anyone abandons fishing gear it's to expensive. Losses are inevitable unfortunately both for commercials and recreational fishermen. Can't see how the local council can help with that. There are some groups who try and recover lost fishing gear, mainly divers i think.
That was my point exactly, you can try and make do with what you have and not get the full benefit or borrow the correct gear off the skipper and that will give you a better idea if uptiding is for you.
