I've never caught a squid and don't expect to catch one now. But you may be interested in one I bought, fresh, from the fishmonger a couple years ago.

Not caught a decent one since the mid 80s fishing a few miles out at Pan Sands. Caught it on an irritable great ragworm. That ragworm must have given the fish some grief because it hardly put up a fight at all and weighed in at ten and a half pounds.

Eel done the Japanese way is fantastic. Skinned and cut into 2" lengths. Marinated overnight in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and a drop of sherry. Grilled, while being basted with the marinade mixture...
