Fixed Spool For Common Skate (Shore)

It was pretty poor to be honest. No mackerel on either day, though we didn't try that hard for them. Just wrasse up to 2lb and a few straps during daylight, and the same into darkness. I did have something on briefly that bit clean through my 100lb pulley rig trace line. My mate had the smallest...

Hi Colin, many thanks and yep I've decided to get the standard BG8000. (Fished our old mark up on the Lleyn this last Friday & Saturday. First time for 2 years.)

Fixed Spool For Common Skate (Shore)

Hey gang, I'm looking for any recommendations for a fixed spool reel with suitable guts and line capacity (braid probably) for Common skate from the shore. Significant birthday (60) next year, and a trip to attempt to catch a shore caught common skate is definitely on the list. After...

South Coast Swanage Pier, 13th June

Nice one Cap'n. Think you may have got a day ahead of yourself in the thread title :) Was the pier rammed with visitors, or was it bearable!

    Advice Lidl reels and nets

Plenty of Wrasse but all mostly small Corkwings with the odd small Ballan thrown in. We used mostly rag, but also tried small slivers of mackerel to see if there were any Gar or Mackies about but no joy. Think the tides were a bit small too. Later in the year we quite often use (slightly...

    Advice Lidl reels and nets

Bought both sizes of the bait runners last year, and for the money they are outstanding. I used the larger 5000 size for freelining baits off Portland and Chesil a couple of times last year with no worries. Coped with a 12Lb Undulate OK. Used the 3000 size last Monday for wrasse bashing (float)...

South Coast Two days on the dogfish

Great report, and not a single nuisance fish. It's nice to see the Solent Salmon making such an early appearance this year. A sign of Global Warming perhaps? Cant wait for the Spiders to turn up. ?

    South West Floundering around

Nice report. Haven't caught a flounder in years. Those Lidl reels are great value for the money. I bought a couple of the live liner reels from my local Lidl earlier this year. They were still £12.99. I used the larger 5000 size one last Friday for Wrasseing on Portland.(y)

    Weekend Plans

Fair play never done Norway, but know what you mean about dogs and ting. There should be some "long grey slimy cod" from the mark were looking at on Friday. (At night time most probably) :)

    Weekend Plans

Going to recce a cheeky little rock mark in daylight with my M8 on Friday, with a view to doing an all nighter later in the month. First trip this year with the heavy stuff.
