    Penn reels

Im still using the first addition fathoms, the later mk1 seem to corrode more than early ones though.....mk4 🤔.....think bad reviews outway the good!

South Coast A little trip away ...

Not particularly.....think was more poor bait, locations, and not having a clue 😁 Following trip went very well ....learn a lot when others catch and you don't....even if you don't see your mistakes straight away.

    Nice fish, well done 👍

    I'm so confused....

For south wales, probably need a strong rod to cope with the strong tides, and big leads...7 or 8oz often needed. Maybe look for a 2nd hand Century with a casting rating to suit ....i tend to use a kompressor SS when i fish that side ,👍

    South Coast Dorset gilts

South Coast A little trip away ...

Cracking report and pics Chris 👍....it certainly can be tough out there....my first week of solid fishing on Fuert produced just 2 fish on the big rods .....that tests the sanity 😬👍

    shock leaders

Braid generally is poor for shock loads and abrasion. Some lads as can be seen here, use it with no issues.... Maybe mostly on clean beaches?... I've no idea, but I would suggest going over 100lb if using a braid leader, def use something heavier than you would if your used to mono leaders...

    Advice Daiwa 7 HT series.

Interesting the issues have been there from day one, these lads have definitely all had loads more issues with recently made reels afaik. We assumed it was a drop in quality, or maybe a move to a new factory ect....... maybe just a lot of bad luck then, or the lads are just casting harder and...

    Advice Daiwa 7 HT series.

Think its mostly the sideplates, guess the boss you mentioned. The problems are far worse on the newer blue mags...last year or so of manufacture i think .....im talking of reels lasting for very short periods of time, compared with years for older blue mags. Not a one off either, quite a few...

    Advice Travel reel advice?

Strangely on a recent trip, an old dear in front of me on the plane, got out like 12" knitting needles and proceeded to knit for a few hours!! Somehow the long pointy needles are allowed.....go figure 🤷

    Advice Travel reel advice?

On paper it is, but id take the dia listed on the spool with a pinch of salt 😆 Main benifits, it casts much better off a FS than mono esp as strengths increase, and it has zero stretch, compared with loads of stretch in mono. It also has downsides, it floats, you get wind knots, it can be a...

    Advice Daiwa 7 HT series.

Good luck with your reels mate, just don't work them too hard....i know a few chesil lads that have had lots of problems with the newer ones...they love the reels, but they don't last like the old originals....shame, but seems the way these days ☹️

    Advice Travel reel advice?

Go the small fixed spool, and 15-20lb braid.....J braid is a reasonable cheapish braid 👍

    Hook choice

Cheers....they look like the spare ones i had with some lures. Ive ordered some bigger ones and replacement stronger trebles from VMC / Mustad think it was 👍

Advice Travel 4 or 6 section beach casting rod

Not what your after, but ive got a trip planed and been looking for a quality travel rod (Century unfortunately dont make one at this time ☹️) and have a Samson Todos Travel coming...6 piece 12ft 30-100g lure rod....looks a nice bit of kit. I'll update once ive used it a bit...if its of...

    Hook choice

Thats brilliant info, thanks a lot👍 If i can give some info back, i find a small steel file works much better than the diamond type (i have the EZ type) something like a "Jag" file like the carp lads use, works very well on sea hooks👍....they also do a diamond type to go with it, but i don't...

    Hook choice

Cheers, and a replacement strong Treble?....Rooster /jack type strength 😁

    Hook choice

Im looking to replace some trebles on lures and want a strong hook 🙂....for a trip abroad.....any recommendations?......ill go the above mustad route for singles....and use the seeker singles i probably have lying around in a lure box🤔

    Bristol channel.

Big rods, big leads aren't as much fun, unless you're a big lad i guess, but id rather be catching than blanking 😁 A more powerful rod will cast a 7oz easily enough ....if needing an overhead thump, actually better than a lighter lead. As always practice makes it easier.... generally start the...
