Fished lee on Solent or lee on THE Solent..... depending on where you come from!
I had been keeping a close eye on the weather..... mainly the wind all week, even up to the time I was in the van ready to go ..... shall i just go to eastney 5 mins up the road where i can just turn round and go home? or commit and head to lee on Solent still only 30mins....
I committed to the plan and headed to lee on solent, Browndown area on the Elmore Angling Club side, thanks for the tip @Chalton.
fished from 1900-2300......high was at 2330
20mph wind with 30mph gusts straight in the face.
I got the shelter up weighed down with a tonne of shingle and decided to just use 1 rod due to the wind and choppy conditions.
I wanted to use a nice long hook snood for a ray but decided a short pulley pennel would cast and be less prone to tangling, Bait was bluey and squid 2" size chunks on size 3/0 J and Circle hook up top.
7oz lead from the off casting into a head wind and was pretty happy that it was holding bottom and with the rod sitting almost horizontal to the beach it was "fishable"
first hour a half went by with no bites, changing the untouched bait every 30 mins. then i started getting a few rattles which were just about noticeable in the wind! now the next few baits were coming in pretty much stripped....maybe crabs or something too small for the hook size?
1 hour before hightide it started kicking off now with the wind getting stronger trying to lift the tripod I pulled in 3 pin whiting and 2 dog fish. the wind was getting too much now trying to cast into it was just too difficult to get it past the breaking waves so decided to call it a night, sadly probably missing the best part of the tide.
No Ray but happy to get out and brave the conditions which TBH were ok until the last bit. who dares wins!
