My 15 year old grandson asked me if I could take him fishing , so after some thinking and a bit of planing , I decided to take him into the Barbican using lrf but with a difference using rag instead of artificial. Well it was a good 2.30 hours , we must have caught over 30 fish between us , 8 different spieces and I think the highlight was a big dragonet which the grandson caught , I was a happy for him but a bit envious as I tried all winter in the lrf comp to catch one , this is just a few of them without the lad in them . Great session, well done, that is an incredible catch rate.👌🏻👏🏻🥳

Further proof that LRF with bait is more successful than using scented lures and vastly more effective than unscented lures, which is how the LRF snobbery table goes😂🤪🤣

Nice one mate, and good to see the youngsters having a go, need more of them... 🎣 🎣

Ian.

Nice report & photos John. Always great to see the young 'uns getting involved. Missed this somehow this morning.

EDIT: And yet again, forgot to hit the post button yesterday as it was below the bottom of Laptop screen. Truly getting Senile!

I do it with jelly and metals etc , but to be fair you can catch more using rag
I don't really understand how "LRF", I believe "light rock fishing", essentially the use of super light rods and reels to target basically anything close in off rocks, piers, rockpools etc....has become a specialist lure ONLY discipline??

It's a great way to introduce kids esp when using rag. There were loads of kids using LRF kit on the stone pier last time I went down...a local club it turned out, and they were smashing out the fish on rag ...having a fab time!!.....if you gave them plastics or lures I bet most would have been bored pretty quick.....while you can obviously catch on plastic and metal, it takes a certain amount of skill, and is still far less productive for amounts of fish.

I just think it's a shame that the lads at the forefront of LRF kit, and promoting it with comps etc....flatly refuse anything to do with real bait, and are missing a trick with the kids 🤷

Obviously that's just my view as someone that uses all types of fresh bait and lures ....I travel a fair distance so use what works best for a good session 👍

It’s the same as most disciplines of fishing, the snob factor kicks in, bass don’t count unless they are on lures, trout should only be caught on the fly, unless you are a 200 yard pendulum caster you aren’t a true beach fisherman🤷‍♂️

I despair, the whole thing about fishing is working out the best method to fool your target species. Sadly, people get sidetracked by stupidity and a desire to look down their noses at someone else🤯

Rant over😂

I'm not sure with lrf, it's fun and accessible to all. I've fished with a few of the top guys, and you couldn't meet a nicer more helpful bunch of lads....they will do all they can to help out, and enjoy the challenge of rag against plastic for the days session.

I think the competition side of things is where the problem lies....rag is just better than plastic...makes things tricky that....so it's all just banned!
