I would never recommend a shock leader for rough ground fishing with monofilament.
Why would you want to have a weak link in your set up? I can never understand the misguided advice of using a shock leader unless of course your casting from a clean beach.
I have seen advice given on all forums about rough ground leaders, guys upping their leading strength in the hope it will be stronger. The leader knot is the weak link.
Saying that I use 50lb mono straight through but no matter if you use 30 or 35lb line the leader knot will weaken the main line down to 25 at best.
Yes yes use aI Bimini twist but I don't see why you want to have this complexe friggin thing that struggles to go through rod eyes an I don't know about others but I find it frays very easy.
I try to not talk out my arse
but from experience, so yes I have given the Bimini twist a go and found it a bollocks in general lol.
Once again part of the reason to fish rough ground is to have deepish water close in, no need for long casting, so why use a leader. Please chaps get this leader rough ground nonsense outta yer knoggins.
I myself am thinking of getting a heavy braid set up to fish along side my traditional rough ground. Starting to get on in life an maybe the heavy braid will be a bit handier
But I will say it once morel lol forget leaders for the rough unless you have a specific specialised purpose, upping your leader strength will not help you pull outta snags, heavy line straight through, a single large hook and a reliable rotten bottom are the basic principles. Mr Fish an other experienced anglers have already noted,,, you will still lose gear
it's about trying to lose as little gear as possible.
A 10/0 hook 50lb line, half a Pouting an 7ozs of lead do not cast very far
how do you fish yours? Lol
Am I too extreme, leave a comment below. Like share subscribe lmfao.
