    Zziplex standard zeteque

Had the txl version (not gt) and the tip was actually quite forgiving, showing up bites really well. Steely in the mid and butt sections. Regret selling it now!

    Advice Zziplex GB3

Thanks for the comments, looking forward to giving it a go. The lighter one sounds like more of an all rounder.

    Advice Zziplex GB3

I’m hoping to use it with fixed spool and braid, did consider a switch to k guides as the existing rings are fairly small, starting with a 30 bnhg but will see how it goes before messing about with a rebuild. Would like to keep it original ideally.

Thanks for the info all, sounds good. It’s the heavy version I’m told

    Advice Zziplex GB3

Have just taken possession of this older rod, bought second hand but in (what I’m presuming is) it’s factory build, in lovely condition bar a few mackerel scales! Thought it might be useful for rough ground/cliff fishing, seems really pokey and a bit unwieldy at 15’4. Definitely a low reel job...

    Tronix Tripod.

Up here match fishing is usually with one rod and is often fairly mobile, so the simplest tripod design with minimal add ons is a bonus. Other areas of the U.K. might call for something a bit different and definitely no expert, but personally thats the opposite of what I’d be looking for...

Veals Online Accounts hardly worth the bother

Got to say in my experience Veals has offered top notch service, most recently in my purchase of a reel, and really went out of their way to help. Would recommend.

    Advice Penn Spinfisher 7500 LC?

It would be the spinfisher 7500 lc V. The new one is labelled vi

    Advice Penn Spinfisher 7500 LC?

They were pretty decent too but I felt the older ones were just a bit higher quality, and the spare spools with the older ones is a big bonus.

    Advice Penn Spinfisher 7500 LC?

Had both the old and new models, got rid of the newer ones but still use three of the older ones regularly for rough ground fishing. They’ve been great. Not the lightest, but very strong reels. And cast nicely.

    Thornback Rays

Lot of effort for not much reward, the only one I ever kept (which I tried to return and cut my hands on it in the process, for some reason the fish didn’t make it) then cut my hands to bits again trying to prepare it. Tasted ok I recall. Now they all go back!

Any views on Travel Beach casting rods against 2 piece?

Wish I’d thought of that! Good to know in the event disaster strikes again

Any views on Travel Beach casting rods against 2 piece?

It snapped in two places unfortunately, 4 inches from the tip and halfway down, and not clean breaks either! By some chance I had an old three piece rod in the corner of the garage and the tip section was perfect fit and length, a friend re-ringed it with the old rings off the bust section and...

Any views on Travel Beach casting rods against 2 piece?

Found the greys triad a really useful rod, to keep across the boot of the car as a spare in matches etc when I had to use one rod but fancied having a decent back up just in case. With the reducer it takes the rod up to 14ft so a good usable size. The only problem was I snapped the tip due to a...

Any views on Travel Beach casting rods against 2 piece?

I have a pair of Ron Thompson traveller beach rods, 6 section, and these have been great for holidays and trips away in the U.K. not had anything huge on them but managed rays to 7lb and codling to 6lb, and plenty of big strings of mackerel! Trade offs would be slightly short at 11’6, also...

    So how many?

A terrible amount, I seem to have collected every one of the British greys rods produced, and daiwa awbs/hpb, some still unused. They kept coming up cheap and I kept buying them! Far too many rough ground rods when I only need one really, and a couple of pairs of go-to rods for general fishing...

    Cornelian Bay/Cayton Bay?

No problem mate it’s definitely best timing it to fish when there’s a decent swell. An easy to fish mark up that way is right outside Scarborough sealife centre, again wait til rough weather and fish it across high water from the wall, you don’t need to be casting any more than 20 yards along...

    Cornelian Bay/Cayton Bay?

Cayton bay is best fished in the dark when there’s a decent sea running, across low water and maybe a couple of hours either side casting fairly short into the gulley. You’ll see the dark water inside of the reef, can be a very good spot but a steep climb down (and back up!)
