Well guys, went across to Lizard Tackle and bait today ( many thanks Reevsy) Wow has that shop got some stock for a small place, the owner had replied to my e.mail and had the bait I wanted so all is good now , just need a fish or two . As said, tackle shops are a scarce commodity down at...

    Pushnets?

I have one I made some years ago, they work well, but dont get one that is too big as they ar a bugger to push . As Beach says , I have netted sandeel, lots of prawns, small flatties, and some weavers as well, so do take care .I made mine for bait collecting , never thought of actually eating...

"Fishing knives" and the law re knives in public places

Cobblers. It is perfectly acceptable to have such a knife with you when its purpose is one for which you can say is reasonable. As a hobby catching fish for the table is what we (at least some of us ) do. You could just as easily say that Butchers or Chefs shouldnt carry knives to and from...

    South West Helford Passage

Hi all. In 3 weeks time I will be staying in Helford for 7 days , I have boat fished from there before , but the fishing in the Helford River estuary is a new area for me. I really would like to target Bream, but really anything will do. Any hints, tips on locations, baits etc , would be very...

    Advice Zziplex GB3

Its a Backcaster , or at least the one I used was being used for that purpose, a bit of a beast and not really suited to light beach fishing, but if you are chasing cod in winter and want to chuck out big baits on big weights it will do the trick. Hope you have big arms. 🤣🤣🤣 Dave

    Tronix Tripod.

After all the replies, I was thinking that if Tronix can actually get anybody to buy one of these then good on them . A fool and his money are easily parted and its the buyer at fault if he is taken in by all the ridiculous sales blurb. Same thing goes for lots of fishing gear these days ,both...

    Tronix Tripod.

Skye last year , a day using vintage sea gear . Eat your heart out Tronix pro it works as well as yours , and cost, er, well, a scrattle around in a skip as I was passing . I think it is made of a bit of framing timber that had been used in a bathroom. Dave

    Tronix Tripod.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 What a load of tosh ! I do not fish matches but if anybody thinks that that is a “ must have” then they need their head examined . Its a bog standard tripod with a tray and a trace clip or 20. Or as my gran would have said . A ten pound item with a fifty pound label. Only more . Dave

Alvey reel, braid, and cliff fishing.

No idea Mate…. I have fished Filey Brigg for at least 30 plus years and its always been Ben Storeys Ledge. Dave

Alvey reel, braid, and cliff fishing.

This is the reel, still sits in a cuboard waiting for its big day .😋 You can see its a bit of a beast , weighs a ton ! I had a Connie to match it, I think it was a B14, may have been a Rakata, not sure . I sold it on as it was worth a bit, and sat there doing nothing . You could make a...

Alvey reel, braid, and cliff fishing.

Seen it done some years back at Bempton. if you get the balance and timing right the big Alveys really sling a bait and lead a long way, get it wrong and it will pull you over like a leaf in the wind. I was so impressed that I bought all the gear to use off Bemmo . I never actually bit the...

    WASHED UP TACKLE

Always manage to find something , I usually start a session before low tide, and as the sea retreats there are always a few crackoff leads to be found, usually its the leader that has parted from the main line so there is also the bait clip etc to salvage as well. I have also found the odd...

    Knot

I think he means braid wraps around the mono, creating the “knot” , not the number of turns around the reel or whatever . Dave

    Knot

About 16 as I remember . They are very quick to do once you get used to the method. As easy on the beach as any other leader knot. Dave
