    West Wales GINST POINT

@ever optimistic the weed did build up for a bout 2 hrs mid tide but then it eased off. Low water provided the most action , one keeper bass on 2 small frozen sand eel to one of the lads. When he cleaned it , stomach contained 3 small crabs ! At the same time I lost a decent fish that had...

    West Wales GINST POINT

Heading down there tomorrow with some old fishing mates. Taking a selection of baits including fresh peeler crab . Fishing the flood tide up to HW ar about 2330. Forecast is looking good with a slight SW breeze. All the indications are positive so I'm hoping to put up a positive catch report on...

    Review Circle hooks

I have been using them for a few years now in different sizes and makes. Size 2 for a bunch of maddies for flounders and bass. When using blow or black lug I always use a pennel rig and either make a "worm sausage " or just hook them on the top hook and bait elastic to secure them. Almost...

So wots your biggest bass sorry minstrel ?

My biggest from shore or boat, caught in 2009 . 8.5lbs Size 2 circle hook loaded with maddies on a snood full of red beads meant for flounder. I recall that it was a female full of eggs and to this day I regret killing it. Took it home to weigh and that's when I realised it was a female. Had a...

    Western Isles Advice Please.

Hi , the wife and I are planning a driving holiday to Scotland next September. I have got a basic itinerary set out already but I'm looking at a general fishing charter day out from either Mull, Oban or Ulapool . Some suggestions as to boats that cater for individuals with equipment for hire...

    West Wales WET,WET, WET

For once the weather forecast was correct  easterly winds and continuous rain from 9pm meant that weather conditions were against us from the start. The mark was a new one for me and the novice. I'd carried out a recce earlier in the day and had had a good brief from my bait provider...

West Wales THE NOVICE V THE EXPERT ON A SOUTH GOWER BEACH.

Only works with proper Black Lug as far as I know . Blow lug just go to a smelly mush. I did take them to the beach and dropped them in to act as ground bait , didn't make any difference though .

West Wales THE NOVICE V THE EXPERT ON A SOUTH GOWER BEACH.

This whole trip had a big question mark hanging over it from the off  Owing to some fishing commitments of their own my bait supplier had to deliver 1.5lb of quality lug worm on Saturday. Really annoyed with myself that by Monday morning it had turned to a mushy pile  Just didn't...

West Wales North Gower surf beach revisited

I certainly intend to take him there when the weather is warmer and the GG's are showing . It seems at the moment the local bait diggers are having problems finding enough maddies to make it worth their time digging them . Hope the situation changes as they are definitely the top bait for the...

West Wales North Gower surf beach revisited

With a decent size tide and hopefully decent weather , yesterday afternoon saw us heading once again to ,what is now becoming, a favourite venue for two 70+ sea anglers. Two rods each;and I'm pleased to report that Veals handled the issue of the broken reel very well and Graham is now using a...

West Wales A COMEDY OF ERRORS !!!!!

o_O More like a CHAMBER OF HORRORS:rolleyes: If you are of a nervous disposition or easily upset please read no further . The venue was once again a north Gower surf beach. HW 0300 ish with a 6.1 mtrs tide. Light south westerly wind with a 6% chance of rain through the night (That's what the MET...

    West Wales I JUST KNEW

I shouldn't have gone  Graham , my fishing buddy, was very keen to get out and against my better judgement and 35 years worth of experience I gave in and arranged to meet him on our local surf beach . Why didn't I want to go you may ask? The tides are huge right now 8.4 mtrs on the local...

Thanks for all the useful input so far gents. Catch report from yesterday will be up in the south Wales section sometime soon. Needless to say length of snoods will be mentioned . I'm certainly going to make more of an effort to try different lengths and record any notable differences ...
