As I was up bright and early this morning and the weather looked perfect, I thought I would have a go for bass using a fly rod.
I set up a 10ft rod with a w/f 9 weight floating line and as there were plenty of fry breaching the surface 5 to 20yrds out, tied on a fry imitation fly pattern.
The water was clear with a slight ripple and a gentle breeze from the left and the flooding tide coming from the right.
I cast beyond the fry and worked my way back with a slow figure of 8 retrieve .
Methodically working the water from right to left as if it were a clock face I bought the fly back through the 'zone' changing the pace of the retrieve as I went.
I changed fly patterns and even tried a surface popper, but all to no avail.
As the sun of a new day climbed ever higher into the bright blue sky, I knew my chance of a bass had gone.
I just hope that the weather god's take pity on me this week as I think a few more dawn raids are in order.
I know it will be hard fishing, open beaches on the fly nearly always are, but with luck, I will prevail.
There we go, my first proper fishing report on the lure forum.
