Bait mackerel fillets and heads. Target Bass.
Walked out to the boat at 6am as the tides was flooding over the flats. Tackled up and once the tide arrived walked ashore to get the dingy. A short run out to deep water (60') well for the Thames estuary anyway.
Despite the neap tide there was a far amount of run and conditions looked good. Cast out a head across the tide and a fillet uptide and went to put the kettle on. That doe I turned around just in time to see the uptide rod slam over and break out. Fish on! Bang on 5lb and things were looking good.
However despite putting the kettle on a couple more times no further bites were had. And to top it all the wind got up and as the tide eased swung the boat across the tide making things a tad bobbly. Headed in happy with tea sorted.
Been a bit preoccupied of late and haven't been targeting bass.
54lb caught in 5' of water. Mental!
