Got my first chance to get out on the big beach, after far to long. Like most I've convinced myself it's going to be a banging sesh, despite the short tide.
So fished from 2 till 10pm, all the normal baits after about an hour cracking bite first Bass nice fighter about 3lb, that will do quick photo, then off it goes back to fight another day.
This is where this beach gets it's own back not another touch until after dark then it's strap central. Only other good thing was watching the dolphins for a while. Ho well good to be out tho.IMG_20230809_160939.jpg

Never fished Chesil (or Chisel!) as it's a fair way to go for me, and I'm not well enough to go hauling gear & hiking across shingle.

I've seen so many poor reports over the last 12 months of people blanking, or just catching Crapfish (Straps etc.), I don't get why people travel miles and rave about the place. I can do similar at Slapton or Beesands, and they are a 2 1/2hr round trip for me, not 6hrs.

Hi Trampster . I fish chesil as often as i can and ive got to agree but disagree with what you say . Yes at times you have to fish your way thro some shit but the potential is always there to catch the fish of a life time also it has many many species to offer that not many beaches can . Unfortunately Slapton and Beesands cant . Chesil is a magnet to me i love it there , but the walk bloody kills me every time .

You pick your tides and places very carefully..... turn up in gin clear water on a neap in belting sunlight.... you better have a plan.
Hit chesil on a big spring after a blow.... different story no.plan required.

Also there is always a chance of an unexpected monster - like my old mate Guy Spriggs who went and fished the Portland end of chesil in 2015 and landed a record Stingray of 78lb 8oz........

Great report Bigfish, nice Bass too, and lovely pics mate... 🎣 🎣

Ian.

Youve done better than most over a neap and pretty poor fishing conditions. Now do the same around the end of the month when the waters are moving again and your expectations might be met.

Well done again

Ye prefer the bigger tides but have to go when the fpo says we aren't doing family stuff, 😭 can't wait for the g/kids to get back to school free the weds session up again. Selfish I know but dangling comes first when I'm free. 🎣🎣

Nice bass 👍

I've only fished chesil once I think, other than squid fishing, in the last few years, a fab plaice on its day, but not easy fishing! It takes a lot of local knowledge to do well consistently.
Not having that knowledge I used to go down after or during storms, around September....and caught some special fish....with most sessions full of fish. When I've just gone on a whim...it's normally rubbish 😁👍

Ps.....think I need to go down for some gurnards....anyone got advice?...ta 😃👍

Lots of reds about fairly close in. Its either them or bream with small baits

I have to disagree mate. Chesil is by far the most productive beach in the UK for mixed species, if of course, you know where to go and when. It rarely disappoints!

If I mentioned fishing, or camping to Wifey, that would be a firm NO! Whilst she's quite happy for me to go fishing, she would be staying at home.
Jeez, she still firmly believes that a man only needs one fishing rod & one reel! 🙄🙄 😂😂
