Fishing Rods?

Absolutely agree Cfish, I still have my 60's Abu 464, 402s rods in the back of my shed somewhere. Caught loads of fish on them, still prefer a running ledger and 8ft mono trace.
 
With reference to the op the answer would be no, but;
With reply to other posts it depends what you want with the rod, if like me you are happy sitting on a boat just out to sea in 30 -50 ft of water with a feather trace for mackerel and then baited up to see what you get it don't matter, but if you are beach casting you may prefer a better rod.
But in the end it all depends where the fish are!

Or know where to fish helps as well.
 
Wish I still had my 22ft clinker boat and outboard, trolling at 2knots with a redgill for bass half a mile offshore. Also drifting with live prawn for bream and pollock. Those were the day. Also strings of lobster pots set about 4 miles offshore.

My TF Gear beachcasters are also good quality and have great casting actions. Also show the smallest bites.

My TF Gear rods were made in UK. Diawa in Scotland, Abu in Sweden. Fly rods ( A Jenson) in Denmark. Sage in USA. Lobster pots etc from Bridport Gundry - Dorset. Shimano made in Thailand under Japanese Spec & Quality. The same as my 2018 Honda cb500f motorbike made in Thailand.

TF Gear Made in UK!:oops::rolleyes: That's ?:poop: Unless they make it stick it in metal boxes send round the world to China they look at it then send it back round the world to Felixstowe? Containers of it comes out of Felixstowe trucked to there Warehouse.
So China made! 99% of fishing gear comes from Choogie land anyway.
Way of the world don't want to pay to make in UK/Europe just exploit other countries in the Far east who then turn round and copy your ideas so then undermine your products credibility!
 
i say buy once not twice you can land a fish on any rod but finding one that will last and take the everyday abuse i have a few century rods that are over 6 years old and still are going strong you can rebuild a good blank and they hold their value if you want to resell so you can alway get some good money back in the end

My TFG beach rods had a label that said Designed and made in the UK. Their Multies were made by (Akios)? as have same parts/internals Current Carp rods from who knows where?

I can design a rod here and have it made in S. America if I want. I could then utilise a very naughty ploy of many of the big names , (especially stateside) and have the rod sent to me missing a rod tip which would be taped to the blank. Without the tip in place it cannot be used as a new fishing rod and the tip on its` own cannot be used as a new fishing rod (obviously). What I have in effect are two components of a fishing rod, niether of which are a fishing rod. Wee drop of glue and voila, I have joined the two components and "made" a fishing rod. That ploy was told to me many, many years ago byt the then owner of Penn Europe.

Not sure what all the hassle on Chinese is to be honest. I specialise in big game rods and mostly on "E" glass blanks. My preferred blanks are either from Pacbay or AT (same owned company). Been using these for close on 17 years, never a single failure, loved by the anglers, have caught some serious fish and way in advance of anything I could buy in Europe S. Africa, USA or UK. All clearly marked Made In China. Some of the best fly blanks currently on the go are also made in China. All come from a USA factory over there with their quality control and design.

Funny just had this conversation with someone from south Africa about Chinese stuff Take your eye off the Beady eyed fookers and they cut corners to save themselves pennies etc

No I did not, I said "All come from a USA factory over there with their quality control and design." "A" US factory, singular.

OK, misread what you said. As a matter of interest I have fished and stayed with a supplier of rod parts that are made in China in a "wing pong" factory as you put it. He actually has a small part share in it but it is 100% Chinese quality control, design etc, no input from USA or UK (he is a Brit). He also showed me a video inside this "wing pong" factory, you would be amazed at the well known, high end, brand names that were being taken from their bins for packing. (shocked perhaps rather than amazed). Looked like something you would see before a space shuttle launch, absolutely clinical, evrybody in white overalls with hats on, state of the art wall to wall machinery and computers, could easily have been mission control. All blanks I might add, not reels. (ps is wing pong not just a tiny bit racists?)

Well when you live round here you see all the various names! We have pongs.pings.wing weys and a whole mixture of weird and wonderful sounding names! Some you can't even spell!

Yes some places are top notch and as been noted before it's also the ones having things made for go trash!
Mind UK has produced some real Garbage over he years! mind still are JCB comes to mind quite easily pile of Junk Kubota pisses all over them.
