Hi all, been slacking with reports again, so as I had a few fish this week on a short trip to Devon with the Mrs, thought I'd do my bit and post a quick report.
I started with a couple of hours in the rockpools, not something I normally do, but I had a couple of targets I needed.
The fishing went well, and I soon found the main target, a big giant goby.
The bruiser of the goby world!
After a number of these, Rock gobys appeared.
Next I had a surprise Scorpion fish.
A small Tompot blenny, along with common blennies were next, then my 2nd target....a shore Clingfish...my first ever....well pleased with that
Think I then had a small Ballan along with more giants, and Rocks before heading back in time for the Mrs to get back from a cycle.
I moved the van to my next spot and had a quick chat with a couple of locals before getting my head down for an early start on target 3.
I was out by about 7 and got the worm baits out. Setting up a 2nd rod, the first was bouncing !....a mad grab and fish on....I hate to say it, but I was sure it was the target....the rod tip was banging about as I thought it would with this species.... another I've not caught in UK waters....so my excitement was high....slack...noooo it had come off....bugger....gutted
I wasn't happy, but settled down and got both rods back out for a bite less hour.
Thinking I'd missed my chance, the tip went over again....and fish on....same sort of fight, then a gold bar appears my target....quick net out and in wow, really happy now
Next came a couple of nice Ballans, then a very welcome Dragonet...not had one of these since last year.
I then managed a 2nd Couches, before the wrasse came out in force with Ballans and a single Goldsinny, before I headed back for breakfast.
We had plans for the day, but I took the little rod along hoping to grab an hour before the wife got bored, and maybe an hour on the way back later.
The target was a painted and 2 spot goby.... unfortunately I failed on both, but did manage a rare for me Common goby, tompots,Ballans, Corkwings, Goldsinnys, pout, black goby, and a surprise Rockcook!....love these things
Ah what a trip....only a few hours in total, but some cracking tiddlers.
Cheers all
