remember reading a sailors knot book before amazing how many there are and respect to the first person to experiment and invent them lol

Big part of my job knots are, lives depend upon them to be right?
Serious question now then. What knot would you use to secure a rope to a harness? I often use a dog spike with a good rope to help me get up and down steep banks but the knot I use just tends to be lots of small knots until I feel that it won't come undone. I have often thought that I should learn a proper knot for it.
