Evening ladies and gentlemen,

So today we had a weather break and I really fancied getting out and catching a few fish. First job was to get some bait - fork in the car and off to a local beach and try for some lug. Plenty of casts showing and managed a good few score in 45 minutes or so.

Bait sorted and on to a local mark near Faversham. Target species was whiting mainly, but if a sizeable bass came my way I wouldn’t be upset ;)

First cast resulted in a nice little schoolie:

Second cast and it was a double shot of a small whiting and basslet

Close to the top of the tide and dusk closed in; it was a lovely evening in the end, not too cold and the wind died down nicely.

As darkness fell my target species were out in force, granted I was using a light rod but even at 70yards+ it was bouncing around in the rest with feisty north kent whiting snaffling the fresh lug.

Fished for an hour or so and called it a day. I kept enough of the deep hooked whiting for dinner tomorrow, love eating these.

Also interesting to see what they were feeding on - the big one had what looked like a small bass carcass digesting away and the rest had small crabs and shrimp in their stomachs.

I reckon shrimp would be a great bait to try! One for the future I think.

Anyway, a thoroughly enjoyable local session, no massive fish but for me it’s a great session as no 70 minute drive to Dungie or Hythe and still got some fresh fish for dinner!

Cheers,

Robert
