With the weather still pretty crappy I decided to try fishing in a sheltered area of Portsmouth harbour a little estuary called broadmarsh.

Pretty comfortable spot fishing next to the van.

I was on the hunt for some flat fish with whispers of flounder being caught at a near by mark on budds wall I made up some up and over rigs with size 4 hooks and blingy beads and spinners.

1 rig with pop ups and 1 without just to see if one was better or a bit of defence against the crabs.

Bait was black lug and squid.

Fished the tide up from low retreating across the mud but absolutely no bites and a plague of swans gave me a bit of a break in play so time to fry up a burger and have a cup of tea untill they moved off.

Just about on high tide at 1545 and just as it was getting gloomy I had the faintest of bites, fish on! Target achieved just as I was muttering about not fishing this spot again. Always the way isn’t it!?

Happy to get out in the fresh air and beat the weather.

I have never caught a flattie up there on lugs!! usually rag outfishes it easy.
Great report.
Me neither Pete! I’d usually get hold of some
Maddies but the only worm bait I could get hold of at the last minute was lug. I think because of the wind the diggers haven’t had much demand for it.

Used to be a great spot for flats had some mega bags in the late 80s, my fave spot up there was behind the petrol station at Hayling Holt ( about a mile over hayling bridge).
I do know that over the last few years in the summer months a couple of guys have been taking big bags of some quite decent bass on spring tides casting into the channel from the foot of the old railway bridge.
It was a spot fished quite a lot by goldsie . If you hunt youtube you can see what he was doing, night tides worked much better with rag but it can produce a lot of fish to 4lb.
We used to get some cracking plaice up thrre in May......

Good info. Sounds worth checking out, I’ve not fished that spot before. 👍
