Gave Portland a go for the Wrasse today. Arrived at 0830 and fished through til 1330 when I ran out of bait. Fished one rod with ragworm on a float and also tried soft lures. 16 wrasse caught and a tiny pollack. Really enjoyed it but my word what a tackle graveyard. Lost 2 float set ups, about 3 lures and Texas weights and plenty of leaders. Plan of attack next time will be float on one rod and touch leger on the clear areas I can see on the other. Now to decide on the next venue.... Pevril point. Weymouth stone pier or baiter Park Poole.....

Great session and some lovely fish. Some of the marks on portland are brutal. Rotten bottoms and bendy hooks are the way forward. Also weedless lures/jigs work well.

Well done ...sometimes upto a metre of light line needed as a 'rotten bottom ' ,so you only lose the weight, keeping the fish and hook . when u can feel the lead going into crevices each time it can help a lot

Some lovely coloured wrasse there.

Yep, plenty of snags there though. My wrassing bottom gear is usually a three way swivel with 30lb mainline straight through.
25 or 30 hook length and then 18 or 20lb to the weight.
Obviously not for power casting but you can still give it a fair old lob if needs be.

Best just to focus on the one rod as takes are so violent.
Float fishing is fun too though.

Yes I only fish the one rod at a time but switch between the methods.
