Advice needed when I'm using prawns for bait ,do I put them on head first so the head is up by the hook eye or vice versa,any answers would be helpful.

The way I hook prawns is second ring up from the tail. This still lets them swim and keeps them live.

If they are live, then hook through the 3rd segment from the tail with a fine wire hook.

If they are dead (i.e. frozen prawn, or Asian king prawn), then thread them onto the hook like you would with a worm. Head first or tail first doesn't seem to make ant difference. Often I will chop off the head of a king and just use the tail section
 
Had a few species on live ones, nothing much on dead ones, or after 10 mins or so into the cast when the live ones cast from the shore start giving up.
