TrueNot the foggiest unfortunately Shirls - never seen one like that before, and I've got some antique rods here. Some would say I'm an Antique too!
Thanks John!
On old fixed spool rods the bottom guide was often very large, so in order to make life easier, they unscrewed for transport. What is it for..?
Good observation......... the one I have somewhere is definitely a square that locates in a square....... square peg in a round hole that aint gonna work!.I found Retro Tackle after a search, but no screw in Rod rings listed.
Are the threads on the rods internal, or external with a collar Shirls, like that shown by @Just one last cast ?
Doesn't look like yours has the square inside it to keep the ring at right angles to the rod. I'm still on a search mission!
@stan m might have some info?
Agree Pete! If it's an internal thread, I can't see what would keep the ring at the correct angle to the rod?Good observation......... the one I have somewhere is definitely a square that locates in a square....... square peg in a round hole that aint gonna work!.
They went out of fashion sharpish in favour of the fold down guides. Folk kept losing the guide or forgetting to take it. Finding one will be pot luck.On old fixed spool rods the bottom guide was often very large, so in order to make life easier, they unscrewed for transport.

These High stand off surf casting guides Fold flat for easy transport, and fitting into rod bags & rod tubes.www.guidesnblanks.com
They may both be similar, the middle pic on @Just one last cast shows tape around where it enters the rod. This part "could" be what screws in the internal thread on the rod and the "square" end for the ring attachment then just needs to be lined up.Agree Pete! Drawn a blank with me searching anyway.
