Just back from another session on the plaice with Bob following a successful trip a fortnight ago. Conditions looked good, clear sea, calm, broken clouds and sunshine. Unfortunately we hadn’t legislated for the May rot which appeared about 2 hours before high and was dragging the baits almost back to the shoreline.

We persevered and did manage to wrinkle out 7 plaice between us but nothing big, at least avoiding the dreaded blank!

Nice little session mate. 🎣 🎣 Looks like the dreaded May rot made things a little less enjoyable. :(

Thanks. It was really hard work. The fish are at a good distance there but you just couldn’t keep the baits out with all the may weed at the prime time.Think we would have had a few more otherwise.

Hopefully it’ll be gone in a few weeks.

Nice report and photo Nige. Shame about the dreaded May rot. 🎣🎣👍👍

At least the sun was shining Nigel - not a bad way to waste a few hours. Need the May rot to decline significantly to have any real chance of getting amongst the plaice, but by then the spiders will have arrived!! Nice to see the terns diving though, must be some bait fish about, Will chuck the spinning gear in next time I’m down.

Just watched one of Troy's Youtube videos from Guernsey. He put his first 3 Crab pots out over recent days - caught about 20 Spider Crabs, 4 of which were decent size keepers, so they are on the march.
