Out for the first time in a year, went to Goring to dig some fresh outs first, Plenty of beach dwellers asking what I was doing. Not digging to Australia.
Then drove along the Coast to Widewater for 1800, having sent the first set up of 2 hook flapper size one Aberdeen blues with lug for the bream, set about setting up the 2nd rod, Flock of sea gulls at waters edge indicated some activity so alas the tinsle came out, 10 casts (well flicks as with 5 yards of waters edge, stocked up with 30 chunky macks. then spent 10mins picking up fresh white bait. (Starter and mains sorted and spare bait). 2nd rod out as the last of the light was going so reeled in the first rod for a nice little plaice. Well thought this was going to be the makings of a great session. Alas not to be really as it was then quiet until 30mins before HW 2247. when rod dipped over and kept going. Recent reports of Rays and conger came to mind. Nice little scrap followed as taking it easy with the Aberdeens. Resulted in a 2 1/2lb Bertie Bass hooked in the Pectoral fin hence the good scrap.
Packed up a Midnight when fed up with stripping weed off the trace / hooks. so Good start then quiet and a little activity. all in all though despite securing tea etc was rather disappointing. Still worth going and will hopefully get out again soon.
