    South West Slapton Again

I headed off to Slapton this morning expecting a plague of whiting so only put in a couple of squid heads and wings and two mackerel fillets intending to use the whiting as bait. I arrived at 6.15 and fishing by 6.30. Bait still frozen so a two hook flapper and a tentacle on each hook. After 10...

    South West Slapton Short Session

With the bad weather over the last few days and no chance of catching squid in Torbay, I got out my beach rods for the first time since January. I decided to head to Slapton as only half an hour away and wind blowing over the top. I arrived just after 6 and was going to fish for around 3...

    South West Totnes mullet

I've not been out much but have have been trying the river 10 minutes walk from home in the centre of Totnes. A lot of fish around including bass, mullet and salmon jumping. On Sunday I was spinning with a size 4 mepps with a mini power isome and had a good result of 5 thin lipped mullet and...

    Organising a Competition?

Does anyone have any experience of this that could point me in the right direction regarding rules, prizes, entry fees, insurance, risk assessment etc? Any help would be greatly...

    South West Squid

As I've not posted recently I thought I had better. Quick session Friday morning in Torquay after a tip off from Bob that squid were about. Not too hopeful with the cold, wind and swell which made a float and freelined jig impossible. Managed four nice sized ones. My hands were too cold to...

    South West Plymouth

2 hours in Plymouth this morning, hard going and didn't have a bite in Sutton harbour after the gobies. Back at elphinstone carpark dropshot rig, two week old rag and straight into a scorpion fish. Had another smaller on baited sabikis and that was it. The second was really blue underneath but...

    South West Elphinstone surprise

My wife has a course in Plymouth so instead of sending her on the train I gave her a lift so I could fish for a couple of hours. I used cut down sabikis to 3 hooks which I used as they were or baited with a bit of rag. First 5 fish all different species and 4 new ones for the hunt. So I had...

South West First trip with new gear

Few hours at slapton Sunday morning with new rods and reels as bananas let me know there were hounds about. One rod big bait and one 2 hook flapper. Bites from the start and it slowed down by high tide. Plenty of whiting on both rods and a nice smoothhound on the flapper on mackerel. I had a...

    Brixham

Afternoon at the breakwater. Wet and windy. Loads of mackerel about still. Lots of tiny ones with a few big ones in between. Had a go in the edge for some mini species and caught a few types of wrasse and others. Biggest wrasse about 3lb and I broke my line a few times on big ones.
