    Returning a pike

Hi Yesterday I was down at a local lake lure fishing and caught a couple of small pike. I returned them both but the first had taken the lure quite far into its throat. I got the hook out fairly easily but did see a little blood but the fish swam off quickly ... will it survive and should I...

    Learning all the time

So when I was down at St Jean de Luz last time I blanked again. I had a chance to get a look at the sea bed and decided to fish on the sandy area inside the reef. Anyway well into the day a chap comes along and fished a bit further along from me off the rocky area into the rocky bottomed part of...

    Fluorocarbon snoods and leaders.

I was looking through some opinions on the merits of using Fluorocarbon and most of the threads were quite old but even then opinion was mixed. What are current thoughts on using this a leader/snood ? It is still in real terms an expensive material compared to mono coming in at anywhere between...

Just contemplating easily available bait for next week and the humble sardine came to mind. So what's the thoughts on a bit of fresh sardine as a bait for shore fishing. Now I know that the question may be species sensitive but do you think they are worth a bash? They are definitely cheap enough...

    Hook types

OK here is a question that has been bothering me. Is a spade end hook and better or any worse than an eyed hook? For me it is more a difference of the knot or types of knot that can be used to attach the hook to the line but could there be a security issue between the two? I even see people who...

So I have been looking at my rigs and they are a bit thin so decided to get some stuff together to make some up. Two hook running ledger rig

Any mileage in having a two hook rig over the standard single bait? This is the favoured rig for the gilthead from the shore and want to try it but only one bait seems a bit like I am cutting my chances has anybody used a two hook / bait rig to improve the chance of getting a fish ?

    Out tomorrow

So I will be going down to have a day lure and maybe a bit of bait fishing tomorrow. The car will wonder what the hell...

    Should I go?

What are the opinions to this question. The weather is fine and the sea state is good BUT I would be fishing basically from just after high water back to low and just an hour or two of slack water. I have a long drive and I don't know whether to go or not as I would prefer fishing up and then down.
