Advice Bib & Brace - Century v VASS

That’s what my mate wears. Excellent, but can make you sweat a bit. I’ve yet to see a decent outfit made by fishing clothing manufacturers. I use Gill sailing wear, the jacket is over ten years old now, but I’m on my second bib n brace. I wore the outer layer of the knees out, kneeling down on hard surfaces and the inner lower leg started to wear as they brushed together on long walks. I still use them when I’m helping mates do gardening work and it’s wet. I bought some titan stuff a good few years ago when everyone was raving about them. That turned out to be a major disappointment.

Couldn't agree more.
I now wear musto hpx or mpx most of the time and the guy cottens when it's monsoon or when boating.
The so called waterproofs sold by tackle manufacturers is a disgrace.
Not fit for purpose.
(In most cases)

I’m new on this forum and a returner, so watching this for the future. Presently using my old MUSTO offshore Goretex bib n’brace for fishing. Had these for boating but no longer have a boat so using them, and the related jacket, for fishing. Its total overkill at their cost these days but i’ve had them almost twenty years (got them as seconds for a decent price) - and I may as well get as much use out of them as I can before they leak and fall apart.

Maybe old but still better than 99% of the tat being sold by the tackle trade.

Bought a pair of Century in end, they felt more comfortable on look like they will last
How have you found them meirion? I've just received a bib n brace + jacket as an early Xmas present from the Mrs. Not had a chance to use them yet but have to say the build quality seems top notch.

I own a few pairs inc both vass and century.... I much prefer the century ones.
I also have musto hpx my all time favourites were a pair of bright red Henri Lloyds they managed about five years before I blew the bollox out of them.
If you are a bat fastard then the century ones can be a little snug and not built for a properly nourished gentleman.

Gill xplore offshore for me, reinforced knee and seat on bib and brace, been on the beach in torrential rain and been bone dry. Actually like being out when it's lashing down and I'm warm and dry.

I have a pair of helly Hanson waterproof bottoms from screwfix- they were only cheap and there like oilskins and keep the water out, although they don't breathe and can get damp inside if walking a long distance.

Really like the look of the century ones and may pick them up over the winter if there as good as I'm hearing from people online

They are good but just before you click a pair just check eBay for used mustos..... it's a funny time of year xmas. I picked an hpx jacket up for a mate on there for 110 quid a couple of xmas a go.
They happily go thru the washing machine if they are marked.

Be sure to do your research before putting Goretex through any washing machine as it must be completely free of detergent residue, which isn't all that easy unless its brand new ie 1st wash ever. Clean it on a long cycle with plenty of white vinegar and repeated rinse cycles. Also only use Grangers products designed by Wm.Gore

I'm keeping an eye on this thread - I've been considering a pair of Vass waders BUT like keeping things simple and light, and tend to do fair weather fishing, so for now been using hiking boots, and when it starts raining waterproof hiking jacket and over trousers.

Is Vass, Century etc considered tat then?

Not at all... I generally use my century ones... I have hpx but the century ones can be bundled into my box.

I don't even have a box! 🫣

Depending on the distance I have to walk - my kit goes inside a heavy duty shopping bag OR my hiking backpack.

Question: are boxes worth it? I guess they must be or else they wouldn't sell.
