I have bought quite a lot from Veals over the years and used to get about 5% off just for signing up to their online account.
As with everything these days its changed for the worse ( for the consumer at least!)
Now you get 'loyalty points' and £1 spending equates to 1 pence off when you redeem your points. An 80% reduction
Even more reason to shop local

Tell me about it mate, big difference between 5% and a penny in the pound. And they are not the cheapest either, 99% of my gear and tackle will now be purchased from my local tackle shop from now on. VMO have had thousands of £'s off of me over the years, but not any more. :(

I bloody hate Veals..... my primary reason it that they shut the tackle shop.... cos it was costing them a few quid to keep it open. The biggest sea tackle company and they dont actually support fishing. They sponsor naff all as well.....
Just milking the community and putting nothing back.
Greedy bstards.... and they are usually more expensive nowadays.

And don't get me started on that "Teakle bloke".

All the other tackle shops provide a service.... I dont like the shop in westbay for example but they do so much locally i happily spend my money there
... juniors comps prizes bit of local knowledge and fresh bait at 5pm on a monday in November..... thats what counts. So well done west bay you contribute many times more than Veals. So yes i bought some rods there i could have got cheaper at Veals.... but a few quid extra spent locally is hopefully going to help local angling.
By the way we had a poll on this site and over half of you said Veals were the nuts!
Now they are the same price or more expensive because of their greed how do you feel?.

I have changed my opinion of them, that's for sure, like i said, wont be using them any more, local tackle shops only.... (y)

Got my pair of AFAW Match Pro Mk2's from "Last cast Saloon" here in Gosport for £945, at Veals they were £1050. How do they justify that. ?

Veals mail order and the shop you state they closed was actually 2 completely different companies.
Veals mail order had nothing to do with the closure.
As for your hatred of them thats a seperate issue wich is up to you.

Did you see if it was the same owners?

Veals Mail Order (VMO) are sea fishing tackle specialists.
It was way back in 1846 when Veals was first established as a retail business in Bristol. Over the years ‘Veals’ became Bristol’s premier fishing tackle retailer. In the 1960’s a small mail order service was introduced and this subsequently developed to the extent that by the early 90’s it was proving very difficult to combine the needs of both a bustling retail shop and a rapidly growing mail order business within the same now cramped building. So in 1992, ‘Veals Mail Order’ was formed as a totally separate company and relocated to a specially designed warehouse on the southern outskirts of Bristol. From where they could provide a dedicated sea angling mail order service. This move has allowed Veals Mail Order to expand the range of sea fishing tackle we stock and also greatly improve the speed and efficiency of our service.

If only you knew the real half of the UK tackle trade! Forward orders are the real meat of it. Particularly since the sham of Brexit. The UK market has become an even smaller player. I certainly wouldn't like to be a shop owning retailer these days and to be quite frank it's never been an easy ride. You'd always have been better off selling penny sweets as the GPMs have always been far better

In Veals defence, I've always found Veals MO to be great at supplying what I need very quickly...their service is excellent.

They also have a number of good sales, which I've used a number of times for rods reels etc......I guess all this needs paying for?.....I'll happily pay a bit more for this...🙂

And I believe they do help a number of anglers out, not sure about comps etc....

They are certainly well stocked which is why I've used them. When you want a particular make of leader material or hook etc they've more than likely got it.
But my annoyance is they make enough profit on their goods so why treat us like idiots!
Pretend to have a "loyalty" scheme where you could buy £500 of overpriced ( these days as their prices are not so competetive) gear and they'll give you a fiver off your next order
Its made the difference for me.....I won't use them and they can stick the 39 loyalty points I recently earned wherever they like!

Morning all.

We heard about this discussion and always appreciate feedback.

Customer satisfaction means a lot to us and we like to think that the vast majority of our customers are happy with the service we provide. We are always open to change and trying new things in order to move forward, so will always listen to our valued customers.

The Veals shop and Veals Mail Order had traded as separate companies since 1992.

The decision to close the Veals shop had nothing to do with us (Veals Mail Order) and it would appear that the closure was a sad casualty of the pandemic.

The new points system has been trialled and is under review. We are currently looking in to a multi-tier system that will potentially see established customers loyalty rewarded further.

We monitor our prices on a weekly basis, try to remain competitive and even this week offered some huge discounts on a selection of popular Penn reels.

(Example Penn Fathom Mag12SD reduced from £149.99 to £99.99)

We’re aware that it is a very competitive market and for this reason we offer a price match policy. 95% of the time we will match an advertised price, simply give us a call or send an email.

We pride ourselves on speed and efficiency and aim to dispatch your order within hours of receiving it. We are only human, and if something does go wrong, we bend over backwards to put it right. We are passionate about what we do and your satisfaction is incredibly important to us.

We have always sponsored individuals, events and various bodies, but we choose not to shout about it. We believe that it’s down to those who we sponsor to make mention if they so wish.

The Pendine open in September is just one of a number of events we have sponsored in one way or another this year.

Discussions like this are so important to us though, they offer a chance for us to hear how me might be doing, what we could change and what we could improve on, so thanks to all those involved, we do truly appreciate it.

Thanks for replying. I agree I cant fault your service, stock and quick delivery. When I have phoned you have all been very helpful and only last year you were happy to price match two rods for me. Over the years I have spent thousands at Veals and have found the old account system worked well and made a difference to keep me buying from you.
However it's the way this new system is sold to anglers that seems sneaky to me.
I tried to log into my account to find its not recognised, a bit of closer inspection at your site and I'm told I need to re-register due to a new website not being compatable with the old account system.
No problem so I do this and get my loyalty points assuming it will add up to the same sort of 'loyalty discount' of the previous one, but its nothing like it.
You sold the old account by saying 5% discount, but you have kept the 1% discount on the new system a bit quieter!
I hope you do look into this new system and change it to reflect loyalty.

Not had a problem with Veals, and often buy from their eBay store rather than the website, so the loyalty thing doesn't apply to me.

Recently had a bee in my bonnet about adding an extra cup & 'V' support to my Tripod.
Not to fish 3 rods, but I often take a lure rod when beach fishing and it will give me somewhere to put the lure rod up off the ground.
Veals were the only stockists who had tripod cups & 'V' rests that came with the nuts to fit them to the tripod.

I agree in principle to supporting local tackle shops, but most of them locally seem to be situated in places where parking is difficult, if not impossible. Plus, by the time you factor in fuel costs & parking costs to go get a few grip leads or packs of hooks etc, eBay is often cheaper and delivered (usually) to my door within 48hrs.

Use Veals often has there no proper Tackle Shops Near me best is 18miles away I've got Trago Mills 2 Miles away some stuff there is ok and A Small Tackle shop only 3 Miles away which only sells Predominantly Coarse Fishing Tackle they Sell Frozen baits which Helps. So it's Either Veals, Ebay, or Amazon which can be good for Certain items and With Veals if you can't Afford the item in one go Spread the cost interest Free with Pay Pal or Klarna . 3 interest Free Payments which Suits myself and Probably others

I bought something online (can't remember what) and the website used Klarna, so paid outright by bank card, not extended interest free. Somehow, Klarna must have leaked my email address, and I started getting a load of spam porn emails. Sent them a stern email and would not use Klarna again. Have a look at the 'Controversy' section of their Wiki page:

Paypal have been binned here too, as they refused a refund for a new TV that arrived damaged. Even though the seller confirmed eventually to Paypal that the set was damaged and had been returned. The courier had lost the TV for 2 weeks and couldn't provide a valid tracking number, and without that number, Paypal flat blank refused a refund. Got my money back direct from the seller in the end.

Sorry to hear about that Tramps luckily I've had no issues with Either Klarna or PayPal so I might be Lucky
