South Coast Its first fish of the year time!

It was a good day out, only five species for me. Your top photo shows Dan busy lerfing His report for his day is here I must try to get the hang of LRF, first problem is to learn the new language.

South Coast Swanage Pier, social and gar fest!

A good day out, fishing as it should be. Acting as unhooker for the other guys gave me two and a quarter pounds of fillets to freeze,

Weston shore Weston parade in Southampton

Have a look on google maps for Beach Ln, Netley, Southampton SO31 5DF it's further round towards Netley, haven't fished there for years, it used to be free parking down the side of the lane, fishing was not great but then it isn't anywhere along that stretch now. Further along there is a small...

South Coast Squishing Yarmouth Pier IOW

The 'warm jacket' technology works, 'allegedly' by the cloth 'converting light into heat which makes the jig warmer and so is detectable by the squid'. If this is so why do people use them at night in UK, in the dark, it won't be any warmer as there is no light getting down into the water? And...

    South Coast September round up.

The squall as recorded across the bay at Swanage which is somewhat more sheltered from a sou-westerly than where we were. Dangerous for anyone out on the sea with sails up.

    South Coast Turbot or Brill?

I tried it with a Brill, it just lay there, like an upside down Brill.

    South Coast Same again, Boscombe.

Working on the theory that fishing in daylight would get better one day I went to Boscombe Pier last Thursday in search of a dab or a ray. My theory is not supported by any evidence, the fishing was dire, most of the tide up resulted in one small plaice, fishing into darkness resulted in a...

    Fishing around st David's Pembrokeshire.

If you drive up to Goodwick you can fish from the inner breakwater or, a bit further, the harbour wall at Lower Fishguard. Further still, if you fish from the wall over high on a big tide at Cwm yr Elglwys, my favourite spot in Wales.

    Fishing around st David's Pembrokeshire.

Porthgain would be a good place, fishing from the harbour walls, level access and facilities nearby; a bit snaggy if bottom fishing but plenty of wrasse and pollack last time I was there. Float fishing reduced tackle loss.

South Coast Last two trips. Swanage and West Bay.

I had a near blank trip to Swanage Pier on Saturday; one Tompot, the size of an index finger, was the only fish from the only bite. It should have been perfect conditions, light breeze, clear water and the right tide but every tactic, bottom fishing with various rigs, hooks and baits and float...

    Tilapia for bait???

You will find raw king prawns in most supermarkets, they work well enough, better than mackerel in my view.

    South Coast Three trips.

I might be more convinced if you'd changed your avatar or explain to others why you use that one.

    South Coast Three trips.

Firstly on Sunday afternoon to West Bay where PhilR had bagged up a few days before. Everything looked good, the inflow of freshwater with its load of weed and leaves had stopped and the water was clear and calm, and fishless. Four hours without as much as a crab. What a difference a few days...

    East halton

Can you get on at the Skitter end ?

    East halton

Can't help with recent reports but I used to fish it way back in 1978 to 1985, in those days we ventured out onto the clay to fish from low tide up. I used to get to the wall via Winter's Farm which was a freshwater fishery in those days, access to the wall was barred and you paid him a small...

    South West Interesting catch

I caught one from Branksome Chine, Bournemouth, many many years ago; before the days of digital cameras and the internet. It took me ages to research what it was.
