    Pulley rigs

Wondering if someone could clarify for me. I usually fish clean sandy ground using two hook clipped rigs or a Pennell rig for bigger stuff. ( I live in hope ) What would the advantage of a pulley rig be if any and would you use a gripper with it?

    South Coast Out at last.

Well troops after post covid shite and a short break in Paris, finally rallied my aching creaky old bones to get my gear out. Wed night, down to the shore, nice rising tide, 5knot breeze over my shoulder and plenty of room. Started at 1900 and finished at midnight, fishing rag on two hook...

    First Time out this year.

Once again troops I apologise for my absence, but a ripped back and pressing family matters have disrupted things for a while. However last night managed to get on the beach for a glorious night. Started with a slightly undersized but very plump plaice, several small sole and my oppo managed a...

South Coast First time out 2022

Well, finally mustered up the enthusiasm for a session. A few old pals from my rugby playing days wanted to see what it was all about, so picked a night when the weather seemed not too savage and the tide half decent. A beautiful night to be honest, very light breeze over our shoulder, moonlight...

    What to target

Hi all. As I've said previously, I'm slowly getting back into shore fishing after a long absence. I'm down on the South coast ( Bournemouth) and am wondering what should be my target species fishing a sandy beach usually. Any advice would be much appreciated(y)

Advice To strike or not to strike.

I usually fish at night and use a gripper. I have always thought that by using a gripper and your hooks are sharp a fish will hook itself with no real need to strike. Also I wondered if by striking at a knock you pull the bait away from the fish or spook it. Would be grateful for any advice on...

    South Coast Tuesday night bash

Well, having ripped my back somehow a couple of weeks ago, finally felt up to a short session. Beautiful, crisp, clear night fishing two rods on worm an hour up the tide and three down resulted in one palm sized sole and then nothing but pout. But no blank and a chance to get out. Methinks it's...

    Friday session

Armed with some cracking bait and high hopes gave the beach a crack before the winds pick up. Beautiful night again with a whisper of a SE breeze and an ebbing tide. First two casts, two small sole, one on each rod, then for the next four hours.....nuffink!. A couple of small knocks but nuffink...

    Advice Tackle Boxes

Advice please troops. My trusty seat/carrier has finally given up on me and have been considering a Shakespeare box. Would anyone recommend them? Are they worth the money?

    Sat night session

At last! seems ages since I got out. Beautiful night with a 3mph NE . Fishing rag on size 1 kamasan aberdeens on one rod with a big black lug bait on a size six pennel on the other. Small school bass and sole for the first hour with a baby tope thrown in for good measure. Bit of weed about but...

    Quick Thursday session

Decided to give it a go last night. Beautiful evening and a fantastic harvest moon set the scene. Fished two rods, ( still trying to get my casting to a level I'm happy with ). It was a bit hectic for the first couple of hours with school bass and small sole keeping me busy. All quiet later on...

    South Coast Sat Night session

Well, the weather seemed too good to miss so off to the beach. Got there an hour before sunset armed with two rods, rag and frozen black lug. First cast, sole and a dab. Very pleased. Fished on until 11.30 or so with two more sole plus some other undersized. Things went quiet towards the end...

    Advice Ragworm

Just a thought. I normally keep ragworm in the fridge until use. Is this ok or does it kill them off quicker? Daft question I know but can't seem to make my mind up.

    At Last...

Nearly three weeks of this orrible virus and finally felt just about up to a gentle session last night. It's nice to post a fishing thread for a change instead of my usual nonsense. Fished an hour down and three hours up on a lovely evening. Decided to go easy and fished just one rod using two...

    Booms

Hi all. Maybe someone can help me out here. As you know ( or not ) I am getting back to beach fishing after a long lay off. Now, being a creature of habit I tend to use the same rig for where I fish which is sandy and relatively snag free using a two hook clipped down rig. I have been catching...

    Last night's bash

A chance to get out before we travel up to the Isle of Skye to see my daughter and grandson, so took it. Bit blustery to start and a rising tide. Nothing happened until dusk and the weed was a real pain. However, stuck at it until half two in the morning and had school bass, pout and a couple of...

    Bash last night

Well, out with two rods last night, targeting sole and bass. beautiful night, hardly a breath of wind and an ebbing tide. Had a mad hour or so with four of the smallest smuts I have seen, Three straps that I left for a tad too long and they paid me back with some imaginative tangles and a lotta...

    Wet Session

Hi all, Had a bash at soutbourne last night, couldn't resist it. Nothing interested in smelly whole squid, ( bit too picky imo ) had small sole, bass and pout on rag. Nature put on a spectacular light show on the horizon and got nicely soggy when the rain came in. Nice

    Solent Meads

Well I finally christened my new rod last night. Got there at 8.00 pm to find the beach well stocked with paddle boarders, dogs and red people. Oh well, got settled and waited. I could hear my worms screaming " drown me now!" Eventually got going safely as the sun was dipping . Had a fun packed...

    Finally decided.

After some hesitation I have finally ordered a new rod. A Daiwa sandstorm. Really like the look of it and it will replace my old battered Daiwa. Looking forward to giving it a bash.
